Through an investment in the closed-end fund Macquarie 7: Infrastructure, Macquarie provides investors with the opportunity to invest in European infrastructure businesses.
The fund provides investors the opportunity to indirectly invest in the target fund Macquarie European Infrastructure Fund III (MEIF III). MEIF III intends to invest in infrastructure and similar businesses mainly operating in the countries of the European Union (including such countries acceding to the EU during the investment stage) as well as in Norway, Iceland, Switzerland and Turkey. It plans to build a diversified investment portfolio.
Investment activity is expected to continue to build in the European infrastructure market over the years to come, which is supported by the following trends:
- deregulation of the energy market and separation ("unbundling") of the various business areas
- reorganisation/consolidation of the infrastructure market
- continued trend to privatisation
- increasing willingness of institutional investors to invest
- increasing demand for infrastructure investments and a continuously increasing deficit in public budgets
- EU expansion
